Library Challenge - The Secret Garden

The new book at The Library was chosen by Visiting Librarian Jo, and it's an old childhood favourite of mine (I still have my original copy, I think) , The Secret Garden.

I was inspired by the story . If my memory is correct, (spoiler alert!) , there was a friendly robin who hung around with the grumpy gardener and, this was how Mary found the secret garden.

I thought this old Woodware (I think) stamp , with the robin sitting on the spade handle, was just right. I embossed it in white on kraft , coloured it with pencils and added a Hero Arts sentiment.

Grey is Not Boring!

Earlier this week I was teaching English to a class of teenagers and the task was to think of the connotations of various colours. When it came to grey, their associations were dullness, boredom and old-age! 'But no!' I wanted to cry out. 'Grey is, in fact, the perfect neutral to bring out the beauty of brighter colours!' But I didn't say that. Instead, when I got home, I whipped up this simple card.

Dog Days

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I've not had much time for crafting or blogging lately, and this card was actually made in August. My daughter had been on holiday and she wanted a 'thank you' card for her dog-sitter : the brief was 'vintage floral with a labrador'. I'm not sure I fully met the brief but she seemed very happy with it.

The flowers are a Lil Inker stamp and the dog is a Silhouette sketch design.

Inkspirational - Paper-Piercing

Hi everyone! We've got a new challenge at Inkspirational and it was chosen by Shauna and it's -Paper-Piercing!
This isn't something I have often done (in fact, don't do what I did once and enter the challenge misreading it as paper-piecing!)- so it took me a while to come up with this.

I made a panel with Distress Ink and a hearts stencil, spritzed with water and stamped with birds from Sheena Douglass and a circular sentiment. I then die-cut it with a circular 'stitched' stencil , thinking that'd be my piercing - but I just didn't think it was obvious enough. So then I found a stencil with little holes in it and used a pokey tool and foam mat to pierce a circle on the white card. This was my second attempt and it's still not great - I think you may suspect why that bit of  ric-rac has been added!

I hope you'll join in the challenge and show you can do better than me - the rest of the DT certainly have!

Library Challenge - I'll Take Manhattan

First I must apologise - I'm having a really busy time at the moment and have done very little crafting and not been able to visit my favourite bloggers. Hopefully things will calm down at work soon and I'll have a bit more time and energy.

The new book at The Library is I'll take Manhattan.

To be honest, I'm not sure if I've ever read this book - I actually have another of her books, Princess Daisy, in my bookcase but I thought the this cover and title were more versatile. I did love this genre of novels in 80s when I was a very young woman, but I wonder what I'd think if I re-read them now. (I've obviously been thinking of re-reading Princess Daisy someday if I've hung onto it all this time!)

For my card, I was inspired by the woman's 'yay' gesture. I cut the sentiment on the silhouette and the girl is a Waffle Flower stamp.

Inkspirational Challenges - Crop

The new challenge at Inkspirational is 'crop'.
For my DT card, I did consider crops/harvest but decided to go for the meaning of crop being to cut. I coloured in a digi by A Day for Daisies with Promarkers and then 'cropped' it into three pieces. Then I stamped a sentiment.

I hope you'll enter the challenge.
