The Library Challenge - Forty Whacks

The new book at The Library is Forty Whacks by David Kent. This was chosen by Visiting Librarian, Arlene, and I must say, I was surprised and delighted with her choice! I bet this is the first ever craft challenge inspired by true crime.  

For my card, I ditched the murder theme and went with the colours , the 40 in the title and the torn paper effect.

First I stamped and masked the torn effect stamp. (Woodware).The woman holding the sign is an old Ken Brown stamp , I masked her and stamped the city(Penny Black?)  behind her and stamped the 40 with Happy Little Stamper stamps. I coloured it with Promarkers.

Winter Gardening

 

This Woodware stamp is from a favourite old set of mine. I stamped it on kraft ,coloured it with Zig markers and white gel pen and added a Hero Arts sentiment. What's Christmassy about a trowel? Well, nothing really but that cute trowel charm came in a pack of ten a couple of years ago and this is only the third one I've used! It goes with the trowel on the card, doesn't it?

Under the Sea Suspended Spinner

Last weekend my partner took my son to see his grandparents and so I decided to use my free time making a more complicated card. Good job I had the free time because it took me all day! Even though I had watched a Youtube tutorial for a suspended spinner card, I still made loads of mistakes and had to redo. At one point I had a beautifully stamped , masked and inked underwater scene for the back panel ...but then discovered it didn't match up with the porthole! I can't even use it for something else as it has the back scoreline running down it. 

Anyway, I designed and cut this on a Silhouette digital cutter. (The porthole frame was an svg file but I created the rest myself. ) The fish, crab and shark stamps are MFT , the seabed is Sunny Studio and the sentiments(inside and out) are Chloe's Creative Cards.The fish and crab are coloured with Promarkers and I used nylon thread to suspend the spinning fish.

CAS on Friday under the sea - I hope this is cas enough - it wasn't simple to make but it's not heavily embellished and there's lots of 'white' space.

Farmyard Frames

 

I stamped these Papermania frames onto white card - one of them turned out (bottom left) ) to only have the inner bit of the frame , so I had to doodle the rest.  I made masks for the frames and stamped the farm animals (Avery Elle) , colouring with Promarkers.

Inkspirational Challenges - Rain and Rainbows

 

Our new challenge at Inkspirational  is rain or rainbows.

For my DT card I used a very old Stamps Happen stamp, embossed it in silver and coloured it with Zig markers, adding a few spots. Then I added a sentiment from a MFT set.

Many of you know that I love to read books and also to review them at Goodreads .

Here I made a one-layer card by stamping an old favourite stamp by Stamping Bella, in brown ink on cream cardstock.  I coloured it with Promarkers and added a Clearly Besotted sentiment. 

I think this would make a nice 'Back to School' card for a teenage girl. Unfortunately my teenager a) is a boy and b) needs to be bribed/ threatened to pick up a book. Sigh!

Goodbye and Good Luck

 

I'd use this card to say goodbye and good luck - maybe someone leaving work for a new job or leaving home to go to university. 

The animals are all from three different but related stamp sets by Wplus9 - I stamped, masked and coloured them with Promarkers, keeping it all one layer.

Monochrome Penguins

 

We've gone from a heatwave to thunderstorms here in England...I think I prefer the thunderstorms really but it has curtailed outdoor activities. On my card though, it's snowing! 

For this one-layer card I used just one inkpad.  The penguins are by Woodware - I stamped one, masked it and stamped the second behind.  The snowflakes are Uniko and the sentiment is LOTV.  I used a stencil to create a snowdrift at their feet and added shimmer pen on the penguins and snowflakes (which of course you can't see in the photo! )

The Library Challenge - The Duke and I

 

The new book at The Library was chosen by Visiting librarian Vivi, and it's The Duke and I . 

This is a Regency romance , which I don't usually read but she's been compared to Jane Austen , of whom I'm a big fan , so I might give it a try...

For my card I was inspired by the hand holding the sign with the title on it.  I used a Mama Elephant rabbit and birthday stamp and added an extra random sentiment at the bottom.

Twofer - Sun

This month's Twofer Challenge (sun or moon)  is an easy one, I think - I could have made 100 cards with a sun or moon on them...in fact, I probably HAVE made 100 sun or moon cards over the years! 

The sun stamp I used is an old one, which I think was a Craft Stamper magazine freebie. 

For my first cards I stamped a row of beach huts ( an old UM, unknown brand) and masked them. Then I inked some sand and a mountain behind them , using a stencil and pen for the outline.Then I stamped and masked the sun stamp and added the clouds. Finally, I stamped the sentiment (Marianne) , coloured the huts , drew some birds and slapped it onto a grey base card.

For my second card I used some stamps from a set by Reverse Confetti called 'background builder' - it's the kind of set you buy because they look a bit unusual and then when you get them, you've no idea what to do with them!Or is that just me?  So I used the round spotty one to add some interest to the sun and the long spotty one as a border at the bottom. The rhino (brand unknown) was coloured with Promarkers and the sentiments are Waffle Flower.
