Rhino-ing Out of Time

All month, I've been meaning to enter the rhino challenge at Day of the Month Card Club, but found myself short of a) time and b) ideas. Now, just before the challenge closes, I'm off work and have also found a bit of inspiration.

First, I was playing around with my son and some alcohol inks (!) and the big leaf was on my desk - I'd cut it from packaging to make a stencil for another project. I started dabbing it with inks and liked the effect.

Second, the sketch at As You See It :
So, it all came together - just before I rhino-ed out of time.

As well as Day of the Month Card Club and As You See It , I'd like to enter:

Football Birthday Card

It was my nephew's tenth birthday a few weeks ago but I didn't have time to share his card at the time- so here it is now.

I used a digital image by Lily of the Valley , coloured with Promarkers. I tried to do the kit in his favourite team's colours but I'm not sure I achieved that! I stamped the sentiment and mounted it on some football paper.

Going Sledging

It's May half-term! I'm unwashed, undressed and unmake-upped ; my 12-year-old son is still in bed, binge-watching Friends -  but at least I've made a Christmas card!

I used a Neat and Tangled stamp coloured with Promarkers and a bit of white gel pen, dies, and a Darkroom Door text stamp, embossed in white.

The Library Challenge - The Art of Stripes

The new book at The Library  Is The Art of Stripes , an illustrated fashion book.
The Art of Stripes: Over 30 ways to wear stripes: Amazon.co.uk: Hardie Grant, Libby VanderPloeg: 9781784881511: Books
I received this book as a gift and I love looking at the illustrations of great outfits .

For my first card (top) I stamped part of a big Alte-New flower stamp onto ivory card and paper-pieced it using three different stripy papers. I also used some lilac alcohol marker and nuvo drops.

I'd like to enter :

Please forgive the photo of my second card - that background is actually white. Here I stamped and masked some Hero Arts pot plants and added more stripes to the pots. I coloured with Promarkers and added a sentiment, strip of paper and enamel drops.

The Library Reminder - Death on The Nile

Time for a reminder at The Library.

I've gone all-out ancient Egyptian for this one.

I've had this Tutankhamen stamp since the Egyptian-look had a big moment in stamping - must be over 16 years ago! Bring it back! I stamped it in black over a printed paper from Debbie Moore Egyptian promise CD. Then I added an (un-Egyptian) sentiment and touches of gold and spray ink, for a lightly distressed look.

You don't have to go all Egyptian for this challenge. There's quite a lot else going on on the cover. I'd love to see your ideas. You can enter here.

Sweet Sixteen

My niece is turning sixteen this week, so I wanted to make something specially for her.

I used a free cupcake card SVG from Birds Cards, cutting the top out of pink glitter card. The 'sweet' was from another SVG set (not sure who by) and I made the numbers on my Silhouette. I cut some banners and stamped 'happy birthday'.

Inkspirational - Gold Dipped

Our new challenge at Inkspirational is to be inspired by the theme, 'gold -dipped' which has been chosen by Marlena.

For my DT card I used my big old koi stamp. I stamped it on black with orange Distress Oxide ink and then I heat-embossed the fish's extremities in gold. The base card was a ready-made foiled card, cut to size.

I hope you'll join in the challenge.

The Library Challenge - Death on the Nile

The new book at The Library is  Death on the Nile by Agatha Christie . I honestly can't tell you whether I've read this particular book - I have read MANY of her books (my parents read them so I started as a young teenager) - but she wrote over 70!

For my first card (top) I picked up on the camels in the background and remembered this very old '3 kings' stamp. I kept it very simple, stamping on kraft and adding a Christmas sentiment.

My second card was inspired by the title - Death on the Nile - haha!  I used a digi stamp of a mummy, printed large and off the page, and coloured it with Promarkers. Then I stamped a Halloween sentiment.

Another Card for All Creatures Great and Small

It seems the closer the relationship, and the bigger the occasion, the less able I am to make a card . I get almost paralysed by thinking it's not going to be special enough!  So for my partner's big birthday I eventually (only days before!) decided to fall back on a tried and tested card formula.

This uses a Lori Whitlock cutting file that was extremely good value because I have adapted it and used it many times. You can buy the file in lots of different sty;es but it's so easy to create your own if you have a Silhouette. I have made various different numbers for it ( I used it in January for my son's twelfth birthday)

Anyway, I created the sentiment and numbers myself and the frogs are cutting files by Lettering Delights.

Inkspirational Challenges- Adventure

Our new challenge at Inkspirational is to be inspired by the word 'adventure'.

For my DT card I stamped the 'Thelma and Louise'  stamp from Stamping Bella and then masked it and stamped a scene stamp (brand unknown) behind. I coloured everything with Promarkers and stamped a sentiment.

I hope you'll join in our challenge.
